Overview
They may sound similar, but Text Clubs and Group Messages serve very different purposes. Understanding when and how to use each one will help you stay compliant and connect with your audience more effectively.
Group Messages
Group Messages are best for short-term communication with a small, specific list of contacts. These contacts don’t need to opt in — you just need implied consent, and you're good to go.
Details:
- Limit of 50 recipients per group
- Used for one-off or time-sensitive messages
- Messages appear individually to each contact (no group chat)
- Listeners cannot reply to one another — it's private, 1:1 on their end
Example use cases:
- You’ve qualified 5 winners for an event
- You want to send meeting instructions or reminders
Message examples:
- “Reminder to meet outside the Apple Store at Mayfair Mall no later than 8:55 AM this Saturday morning. Questions? Call xxx-xxx-xxxx.”
- “Congrats! You’ve won 2 tickets to the big game this Friday at 5:00 PM. Your tickets will be at Will Call under your name. Questions? Call xxx-xxx-xxxx.”
Text Clubs
Text Clubs are made for mass messaging based on explicit consent. Users must double opt-in to receive these messages, and you’re able to reach thousands of listeners at once.
Details:
- No limit to how many members can join
- Ideal for recurring campaigns, promotions, or alerts
- Members cannot reply to each other
- Requires legal opt-in to stay compliant
Example use cases:
- You want to send weekly deals, interviews, or updates
- You need a reliable channel to reach your biggest fans
Message example:
- “MICK JAGGER - live on the air this Friday. Got questions? Send them our way. Tune in to the live interview Friday with Bob & Brian.”
