Text Clubs

Overview

Text Clubs let you send mass messages to a group of listeners who opt in by texting a keyword to your station’s number. This helps you stay compliant with the FCC's Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and avoid penalties.

Each station can create as many Text Clubs as needed. There’s no limit to how many members each club can have.

Text Clubs are one-way messaging only. Members can’t message each other. If someone replies to a message you send, their response will show up in your Main Sender Window inbox.

How Text Clubs Work

Once someone texts your chosen keyword to your number, Text Groove sends a confirmation message. They must reply YES to join the club. Once subscribed, they’ll receive future messages sent to that club.

Text Groove takes care of reconfirming listener consent every 18 months, so you don’t have to.

How to Set Up a Text Club

To start a club, you’ll need:

  • A keyword that listeners will text to join

  • The maximum number of messages you plan to send monthly (we usually suggest 12)

  • A website or contact email to use for HELP replies

When you're ready, email support@textgroove.com with the subject line:

Include:

  • Name of the Text Club (e.g., "CALLs Text Club" or "News Alerts")

  • Your chosen keyword

  • Station website or brand URL

  • Contact email for HELP replies

  • Maximum monthly message limit

We can typically activate your first Text Club within 1–2 business days.

Create More Text Clubs

Once your first club is live, you can create more yourself:

  1. Go to Left Side Menu > Apps > Text Club

  2. Click the green + Create Club button

  3. Fill in the required details and save

Building Your Text Club

To grow your list, ask listeners to text your keyword to your number. This triggers a Double Opt-In message asking them to confirm by replying YES. It also tells them how many texts to expect monthly.

Try adding this call to action in your:

  • Station signature

  • Auto replies

  • Keyword auto responders

For example:

“Thanks for texting. Reply JOIN to subscribe to our Text Club for updates.”

Compliance and Ongoing Consent

Once a listener opts in, you can send messages as part of your campaign. Text Groove will handle the 18-month reconfirmation process automatically to keep you compliant.

Messaging Text Clubs

Messages must follow a few rules:

  • Maximum of 160 characters

  • No MMS (images, audio, video, or GIFs)

  • Each message will automatically include "Txt STOP to opt-out"

  • If your message includes a link, “Msg&Data rates apply.” will also be added

These built-in compliance features help ensure your messages reach your listeners without issues.
