How to Make Sure Texting Keeps Working When You Switch Providers

Overview

Porting your number from one carrier to another can sometimes affect your texting. Whether it does or not depends on both the losing and gaining carriers (or their upstream providers). We don’t always know in advance if there will be an issue, but we’ve seen enough ports to know what to watch for.

How Porting Works

When you port a number:

  1. Your new provider contacts your old one to start the process.

  2. The old provider validates your subscriber info.

  3. Once approved, they release the number to the new provider.

Knowing which carriers are involved helps us predict whether text routing will be affected.

How to Ensure Text Traffic is Uninterrupted

Once your port is scheduled, email us at support@textgroove.com. Please include:

  • The name of the current carrier (losing carrier)

  • The name of the new carrier (gaining carrier)

  • The date the port is scheduled for

With that info, we can keep an eye on your number during the switch. If routing is lost, we’ll send you a new Letter of Authorization (LOA) to sign. In most cases, we can restore service within an hour.
